Shia LaBeouf on Dating: 'I'm Not That Smooth' While
plenty of young actors end up dating their beautiful costars, Shia
LaBeouf, who's worked with Amy Smart and Megan Fox, says that's not
his style.
"It's really easy to fall for someone on-set, but in the end you
know, it's a representative and it's not really them," the actor,
21, tells Vanity Fair in its August issue.
Instead LaBeouf tends to meet girls through his friends. "There have
been real innocent dates," he says. "They haven't been, like, 'Come
to my house and I'll make you some food and we'll caress and put on
some D'Angelo.' I'm not that smooth."
But that doesn't mean he hasn't found a girlfriend on a movie set.
LaBeouf tells the magazine that he's still not over his first love,
a producer's daughter named China Brezner, whom he met when he was
filming The Greatest Game Ever Played.
"We were inseparable," LaBeouf says. "She was my best friend and my
love."
The pair dated for three years but ended their relationship in
the spring. "My focus became so work-related that I couldn't devote
any time to a relationship," he says. "It was unfair to her."
As for how he's coping since the breakup, he says it's "like
rebuilding after a tornado."
But LaBeouf, who is
currently working on the upcoming Indiana Jones sequel,
is staying focused on his career and even opted to skip the
college-age tradition of getting drunk on your 21st birthday, which
he celebrated on June 11.
"I won't have a sip until after Indy," he says. "People
say, 'What are you doing for your 21st birthday, Shia?' And I'm
like, 'I'm making an Indiana Jones movie.' What's better than that?
