| Peter as well, bringing out the dark, vengeful side of his personality that he is struggling to control. Under the influence of the suit, Peter becomes overconfident and starts to neglect the people who care about him most. Forced to choose between the seductive power of the new suit and the compassionate hero he used to be, Peter must overcome his personal demons as two of the most-feared villains yet, Sandman and Venom, gather unparalleled power and a thirst for retribution to threaten Peter and everyone he loves. A highly engaging opening credit sequence sets the mood effectively, and Raimi’s visual effects keep the film interesting to look at, from his sweeping views of New York city to a slick displacement of images illustrating Parker inventing the appearance of his alter-ego. A nice turn of casting positions Willem Dafoe as the villain of the piece, the Green Goblin, a character who shows father-like interest in Parker’s behaviour and a device to spawn the next villain of the series. Director Sam Raimi has done a tremendous job of creating a movie that will appeal to a wide range of audiences - from non-comic book fans to the most die-hard “Spider-Man” groupie. His deft touch, his ability to allow a film to unfold without rushing through the story, and his intuition on casting Tobey Maguire have made “Spider-Man” a movie that will touch your heart in one scene and knock your socks off in the next. At its core, “Spider-Man” is a sweet, romantic story enclosed in a campy, comic book wrapping. “Spider-Man's” a mix of love, wonderment, and heart-stopping action brought ever so cleverly to the screen by Raimi and his entire talented cast.
